Abstract
Diabetes mellitus type 2 is a disease caused by a decrease in insulin secretion which is characterized by an increase in blood glucose levels. Most of the blood glucose levels in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus in Puskesmas Tawangsari Sukoharjo are high with a percentage of 83%. One factor related to blood glucose levels is the intake of vitamin C. Vitamin C acts as an antioxidant acid which decreases insulin resistance and oxidative stress. This study aimed to determine the correlation of vitamin C intake with blood glucose levels in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus in the Tawangsari Sukoharjo Health Center. This study belonged to observational research with cross-sectional approach. The number of respondents was 27 people selected by consecutive sampling that met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Vitamin C intake data were collected by direct interview using the Semi Quantitative Food Frequency Questionnaire last 1 month and data on fasting blood glucose levels were measured by Glucose Oxidation - Aminoantypirin Peroxidase. The correlation between vitamin C intake and blood glucose levels was analyzed by the Pearson Product Moment test. The results showed the research subjects had less vitamin C intake with a percentage of 55.6% and blood glucose levels were classified as poor with a percentage of 85.2%. The SPSS program showed no correlation between vitamin C intake and blood glucose levels (p = 0.785). There was no correlation between vitamin C intake and blood glucose levels in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus in Tawangsari Sukoharjo Health Center. Respondents could increase variations in food intake of vitamin C.
