Abstract
Background: The long duration of hospitalization will result in losses including increasing the burden of patient care costs, reducing the scope of hospital health services, and becoming a waste for the hospital, while it can also affect changes in body weight and the incidence of malnutrition for patients. Low energy and protein intake can affect the nutritional status of patients, causing malnutrition. Objective: This research aimed to find correlation between the length of hospitalization with body weight alteration and intake of energy and protein in patients with unspecified diet. Methodology: This study was an observational analytic study, using a cross sectional design, and included in the scope of clinical nutrition. Data for length of stay was taken while the patient was in the hospital until he was discharged, changes in body weight were obtained from initial and final weight monitoring and energy and protein intake using the 3 x 24 hour food recall form, with a sample size of 39 in the Anggrek I and Anggrek II class III rooms. The statistical test used is the Spearman Rank test. Result: The length of staying of patients in the short, medium and long categories were 5.2%, 64.1% and 30.7%, respectively. Changes in body weight increased by 51.2% and those that experienced a decrease of 48.8%. Energy intake is at most sufficient category at 43.6%. Protein intake is at most a good category at 41%. The results of the analysis showed no relationship between length of stay and hospitalization with weight change with a P value of 0.107. There is no relationship between the length of stay and the intake of energy during the stay with a P value of 0.615. There was no correlation between length of stay and protein intake during hospitalization with a P value of 0.654. Conclusion: There was no correlation between length of stay and body weight alterations and intake of energy and protein in patients with unspecified diet in RSUD dr.
