Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the improvement of beginning reading skills through syllable methods with first-class picture card SDN 01 bulurejo. The form of this research is classroom action research (CAR), which is carried out in two cycles. Each cycle consists of two meetings and four stages, namely planning, implementing actions, observing, and reflecting. The subjects of this study were teachers and students of class I SD Negeri 01 Bulurejo with the number of class I students as many as 14 students, the data collection techniques used were observation, interviews, tests, and documentation. The desired data analysis technique is the interactive analysis model from Miles & Huberman. Test the validity of this study using triangluation of sources and triangulation of techniques. Based on the results of this study, it can be concluded that the increase in initial reading skills using the syllable method through the picture card media has increased the reading skills of the beginning of grade 1 students at SD Negeri 01 Bulurejo. The increase can be evidenced by an increase in the value of reading skills of students in each cycle. Indicators of reading skills include five indicators, namely: a) Differentiating the form of letters; b) Pronounce the sounds of letters and words correctly, c) Recognize the meaning of punctuation marks, d) Adjust the height of the sound in accordance with the sound, it can be proven by an increase in the value of students' initial reading skills at each cycle. The average value of students' reading skills before the action was only 72 with a percentage of completeness of 43%. The average value after the first cycle of action is 76 with a percentage of completeness 74%, and the second cycle the average value of students is 82 with a percentage of completeness of 93%.
