Abstract

Divorce presents a changing role in a married couple. The father who initially played the role of a family breadwinner, then also doubles the role of a mother. The purpose of this study is to understand the role of fathers as single parents in childcare. The study used a descriptive qualitative approach. The research data were obtained through semi-structured interviews with four fathers who are caring for children under 12 years of age. The data obtained were analyzed thematically. Test the validity of the data using member checking techniques. From the results of the study revealed as a single parent, the father played the role of caregiver, motivator, mentor, study companion, and disciplinarian of the child. The family and school provide support for fathers in carrying out the role of single parents. Dad feels that being a single parent is hard. My father felt an obstacle when outside the house had to do the tasks that he considered to be women's duties.
