Abstract

Introduction : WHO (World Health Organization) notes that as many as 1.62 billion people (24,8%) of the world’s population have anemia, for the prevalence of school-age children of 305 millon children (25,4%) (who, 2008)., while the prevalnce of anemia in Indonesia of school-age children; aged 5-14 years is 26,4%. Anemic child will interfere with cognitive and psychomotor development. One of the causes of anemia is lack of intake of vitamin C and vitamin A which are mostly contained in vegetables and fruits, while the prevalence of consumption of fruits and vegetables according to SDT at the age of 5-12 years is an average of 26 grams per day. Objective : Researchers aimed to examine differences in furit and vegetable intake as well differences in intake of vitamin C and vitamin A from fruits and vegetables between anemic and non-anemic teenage girls. Research Methodology : This study used a cross sectional design, consisting of 39 anemia respondents and 41 non-anemia respondents. Hemoglobin levels were obtained using cyanmethemoglobin, fruit and vegetable intake data using semiquantitative FFQ then tested using Mann Whitney, while vitamin C and vitamin A intake data using semi-quantitative FFQ were then tested using Independent Sample. Results : Data processed using SPSS ahowed differences in fruit and vegetable intake between anemia and non-anemia adolescent girls (p = 0,03). There was a differences in vitamin C intake between anemia and non-anemia adolescent girls (p = 0,02). There was a difference in vitamin A intake between anemia and nonanemia adolescent girls (p = 0,24). Conclusions and Recommendations : There are differences in the intake of vegetables and fruits, vitamin C, and vitamin A between anemia and non-anemia young women in Surakarta.
