Abstract

Bulukerto Subdistrict is a sub-district of producing cardboard puppets. Bulukerto sub-district used to be in almost every village of cardboard puppet craftsmen but due to the fading culture, the culture of wayang was less in demand, causing the production of craftsmen to decline and many craftsmen changed professions. The number of cardboard puppet craftsmen from year to year has decreased in terms of craftsmen and production. This study aims to determine the characteristics of the cardboard puppet business in Bulukerto Subdistrict, the development of the cardboard puppet business, analyze the constraints faced by craftsmen and describe the survival strategy of cardboard puppet craftsmen. This research method uses survey, using saturated sampling method. Sampling with saturated sampling method because the total population is less than 30 people, at least the total population, the researchers used a total sampling method that is the entire population to be craftsmen to be observed as a sample. The results of the study 1) The characteristics of the cardboard puppet business in Bulukerto Subdistrict were 2 namely the first characteristics of craftsmen in the form of gender, craftsman age, latest education, marital status. The second characteristic of cardboard puppet business in the form of its origin, time to pursue business, venture capital, labor, competitor's location, stages of making cardboard puppets, areas of origin of raw materials, and marketing. 2) The development of the wayang cardboard business in Bulukerto District covers the embryo of the business, the glorious period, the first ebb period, the period of awakening, the second ebb period. 3) cardboard puppet constraints in Bulukerto District include capital, raw materials, human resources, weather. 4) survival strategies of cardboard puppet craftsmen in Bulukerto District include raw material strategy, innovation strategy of adding puppet figures, marketing strategy, pricing strategy.
