Abstract

This study aims: to determine the effect of Problem Based Learning method on increasing motivation and learning achievement in Accounting. The research subjects were students of class XI Accounting SMK Muhammadiyah 2 Surakarta school year 2019/2020 with a total of 20 students. This type of research is a classroom action research (PTK). The research procedure includes the stages: problem identification, planning, action implementation, observation. The research process consists in two cycles, each cycles there are two meetings consisting of four stage, namely: planning of observational actions (observation and mentoring) and reflection. Sources of data in the study came from students and teacher. Technique of collecting data used were observation, interviews, test dan documentation. Based on the result of the research, it can be concluded that the implementation of Problem Based Learning method can improve the motivation and learning achievement of Accounting. The increase can be seen from the result of observation of increased learning motivation from cycle I and cycle II. In the first cycle the average percentage of learning motivation was 62,92% (the category of “low motivation”) and the second cycle was 85,94% (the category of “moderate motivation”). For learning achievement can be seen from the result of the post-test of cycle I and cycle II which have increased. In cycle I the percentage of students mastery learning was 51% (the category of “low achievement”) and the second cycle was 76% (the category of “moderate achievement”). This proves that in applying the Problem Based Learning method can increase motivation and learning achievement in Accounting in class XI Accounting SMK Muhammadiyah 2 Surakarta school year 2019/2020.
