Abstract
Taekwondo has an important role in forming healthy bodies and mental states for children. The purpose of the research is to describe : (1) Implementation of Taekwondo extracurricular in instilling discipline and independent character in upper class students of PYP Al Firdaus Wics Surakarta; (2) Barriers in the implementation of Taekwondo extracurricular in instilling discipline and independent character in upper class students of PYP Al Firdaus Wics Surakarta; (3) Efforts to overcome barriers in the implementation of Taekwondo extracurricular in instilling discipline and independent character in upper class students of PYP Al Firdaus Wics Surakarta. This type of research is qualitative research, with descriptive research design. Researcher data collection using interview, observation, and documentation methods. The validity of the data uses source triangulation and technique triangulation. Data analysis techniques using interactive models are data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions.The results showed that; (1) The implementation of taekwondo extracurricular activities in PYP Al Firdaus Wics Surakarta is going well; (2) The cultivation of discipline and independent character has been going well; (3) There are still obstacles in instilling the character of discipline and independent character of students who are still difficult to listen to instructions.
