Abstract

The purpose of this study are: (1) Knowing the factors that cause knowing English that is not polite in the novel Rahvayana by Sujiwo Tejo. (2) Knowing the values of politeness according to the people of Central Java in Rahvayana's novel by Sujiwo Tejo. This research is a qualitative descriptive study. The results of this study are: (1) factors that are not polite language consists of 4 factors, namely Factor the social-norm view (conversational norm view), Factor conversational maxim (conversation proverb), Factor conversational contract (Conversation Contract) and, Social indexing factors (Social Index). In this study, researchers took a sampling of data in the form of language variations in terms of speech that existed in Rahvayana's novel by Sujiwo Tejo. Researchers can find 30 data in the form of utterances that contain elements of language politeness contained in Rahvayana's novel by Sujiwo Tejo. And (2) the values of politeness according to the people of Central Java in Rahvayana's novel by Sujiwo Tejo. In this study there are 3 values of politeness according to the people of Central Java, namely the Moral Value of Language, the social value of Language and the cultural value of Language.
