Abstract

The extracurricular activities of traditional dance at SD Muhammadiyah 1 Ketelan Surakarta were held as an effort to realize the goal of national education, namely to from students who have knowledge, skills and characters. This research aims to describe; (1) The background and extracurricular purpose of traditional dance; (2) Dance extracurricular management; (3) Supporting factors dan inhibiting factor of extracurricular traditional dance; (4) Efforts to overcome extracurricular obstacles in traditional dance at SD Muhammadiyah 1 Ketelan Surakarta. The type of this research is descriptive qualitative research design. The techniques data were used observations, interviews and documentations. The data validity were used triangulation of sources dan techniques. The data analysis was used interactive models. The results showed that; (1) Extracurricular background of traditional dance to introduce and preserve traditional dance, accommodate talents interests, building characters, extracurricular goals of traditional dance to introduce and develop potential talents interests, appreciate local culture and to buil the Islamic characters; (2) Extracurricular management of traditional dance includes planning, organizing, coordinating, communicating and supervising; (3) Supporting factor for extracurricular traditional dance enthusiastic students, competent dance trainers and patental support, limited time extracurricular inhibiting factors and dance practice sites used by other activities; (4) Efforts made to overcome obstacles students are advised to take courses outside or join a studio, and dance practice sites are moved to the school hall.
