Abstract

Parenting is an activity that aims to enable children to develop optimally and survive well, in the form of optimal physical, language, cognitive, emotional and social development. This study aims to describe parenting parents who have speech delay children. The approach used uses descriptive qualitative methods, by conducting interviews and observations. The selection of informants using purposive sampling is to determine the informants based on certain considerations or there are specified criteria. The informants in this study consisted of 3 people in Surakarta with criteria set by researchers, namely parents who had children late to speak without any other specific developmental disorders. The results of the study show that each parent has different ways of applying parenting. The form of parenting that is applied by the three subjects includes wetting the use of gadgets, when the child asks for something there must be conditions to control food, teach socialization, make a daily activity schedule, do activities together, and let the child tantrum. Factors that become a barrier to parenting are depending on the child's mood, discomfort with others, and the application of parenting that must be consistent.
