Abstract
Anemia which is the second cause in the world and one of the most serious public health problems globally and affects developing countries, in Indonesia, young women suffer from 22.7% of anemia. The impact of anemia can decrease academic ability, because of the absence of learning passion. Anemia can also interfere with the growth of adolescents to be imperfect to lower endurance so that it is easily susceptible to disease. Family characteristics relate to child growth. Family characteristics determine the nutritional condition of children including the age of mothers, large families, education, food production. This research is aimed to determine the difference in characteristics and expenditure of family food between teenage daughters anemia and non anemia. Type of research is observational using a cross sectional approach. The subject of each consists of 39 subjects of anemia and 41 non anemia. Data on hemoglobin content is obtained by methods of cyanmethemoglobin and characteristic data and expenditure of family food using the method of Food Account. Results of the study of anemia group as much as 39 respondents (48.8%) and non-anemia 41 respondents (51.3%). Results processed with SPSS V. 20 indicate that there are no differences in the age of mothers between young women anemia and non-anemia (P = 0,316). There is a big difference in families between young women anemia and non anemia (p = 0.001). There is no difference in education between young women anemia and non anemia (P = 0,185). Differences in food expenditure between young women anemia and non-anemia (P = 0,000) there is a significant family difference between a group of young women who suffer anemia and young women who don’t suffer anemia in the research area. Parents especially mothers should play an active role to find information on food sources of nutrients that are important or follow nutritional counseling and food information.
