Abstract

This study aims to analyze the types and factors that cause difficulties experienced by students in solving quadratic equations in class XI SMK Muhammadiyah 2 Surakarta in terms of learning styles. This type of research is qualitative with a qualitative descriptive approach. The subjects in this study were six students of class XI Accounting with different types of learning styles. Data collection techniques used in the form of questionnaires, documentation, and interviews. Data analysis technique is done by data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results showed that students with visual learning styles experienced types of difficulties in arithmetic operations, transferring knowledge, lacking understanding of mathematical language, and in visual perception with factors causing students' difficulties to be inaccurate, lacking in prerequisite material, and not understanding basic concepts. Difficulties experienced by students with auditory learning styles are difficulties in transferring knowledge, lack of understanding of mathematical language, and in visual perception with factors that cause difficulties in not understanding basic concepts and lack of practice exercises. Difficulties possessed by students with kinesthetic learning styles namely in arithmetic operations, transfer of knowledge, lack of understanding of mathematical language, and in visual perception with factors that cause difficulty in lack of practice exercises and inaccurate in solving problems.
