Abstract

This study is about commissive utterance. The research is focused on commissive utterances found in English translation of the Noble Qur'an of Surah Al-Waqi'ah. The commissive utterance is very valuable in the Noble Qur'an of Surah Al-Waqi'ah, because the main purpose of Surah Al-Waqi'ah is to tell the participants about information and Allah' promise of the Day of Resurrection.The purpose of the study is to find out the types and intention of commissive utterance. The technique of collecting data is documentation and observation. The data sourse of this research is manuscript. In collecting data, the reseacher follows the techniques of (1) Analyzing the Qur'an Tafsir of Ibn Kathir in the Surah Al-Waqi'ah, (2) Identifying data of commissive, and (3) classifying the types and intention of commissive utterance. The result shows that (1) there are 14 Declarative 87,4%, 1 Interrogative 6,30%, and the majority of the types of sentences used in the Noble Qur'an of surah Al-Waqi'ah is Declarative. (2) There are 9 Promising 87,4%, 1 Warning 6,30%, and 6 of Threatening 6,30%. The majority of Intention of commissive utterance used in the Noble Qur'an of surah Al-Waqi'ah is Promising
