Abstract

This study aims to describe the form of compliance and violation with the principle of language politeness in Peter's novel by Risa Saraswati. This type of research belongs to the type of qualitative descriptive research. The data of this study were obtained from speeches or conversational texts in Peter's novel by Risa Saraswati. The results of the study found that there were 36 data in accordance with the form of obedience to the language politeness principle in Peter's novel by Risa Saraswati, consists of 6 types of language politeness maxims, namely (1) tact maxim 8 data, (2) generosity maxim 3 data, (3) approbation maxim 4 data, (4) modesty maxim 6 data, (5) agreement maxim 8 data and (6) sympath maxim 7 data. Another form found 14 data in accordance with the form of obedience to the language politeness principle in Peter's novel by Risa Saraswati, consists of 4 types of language politeness maxims, namely (1) tact maxim 2 data, (2) approbation maxim 5 data, (3) modesty maxim 2 data and (4) agreement maxim 5 data. Based on the findings of the data carried out in the study, Peter Risa Saraswati's novel can be said to be polite in the use of language, because the data that has been found shows that the number of forms language compliance politeness is more than the number of forms language violation politeness. The use of language in Peter’s novel by Risa Saraswati is polite, easy understand and contains moral values for its readers, so this novel can be used for learning indonesian in senior high school.
