Abstract

The purpose of this research is, (1) The sociohistorical setting of Dee Lestari, (2) To describe the structure of the novel Aroma Karsa by Dee Lestari, (3) To describe gender perspective of the novel Aroma Karsa by Dee Lestari by feminist literature review, (4) To describe the relevance as Indonesian language teaching material in high school. The method that used in this research is descriptive qualitative, strategy that used in this research is fixed case study. Techniques of data collection is done by content analysis technique namely literature study, data validation techniques with triangulation theory. Data analysis techniques of this research using semiotics reading method, namely heutistic and hermeneutic readings. Gender perspective in Aroma Karsa by Dee Lestari consists of gender equality and gender inequality. The result of this research is: (1) The sociohistorical background of Dee Lestari with with real name Dee Lestari Simatupang is a writer born in Bandung, 20 January 1976, (2) Structur of novel Aroma Karsa from theme about aroma and smell, mix groove, compossed by three round character and four flat character, and have place setting, time setting, and culture setting, (3) ) Gender quality in this novel consists of women existence in education, women existence in work, and women existence in society. Gender inequality in this novel consists of gender and marginalization, gender and subordination, gender and stereotype, gender and violence, and gender and double load, (4) Relevance with learning education in high school on 3.9 KD grade XII, criteria of literary covers three things teaching material, linguistic aspect, psylogical aspect, and student cultural background.
