Abstract
This study aims to describe the errors at the orthographic level found in learning to write fable text for grade VII students of SMP Muhammadiyah 7 Sumberlawang and describe the causes of these errors. This research is a qualitative descriptive study. Data collection was carried out in March 2019 until the beginning of April 2019. The data taken was an error fiction of Class VII students' fable texts. Data analysis methods used are the method of distribution and marking reader techniques. The results showed orthographic errors found in the fable text. Errors at the orthographic level are divided into 3, namely 774 errors in use of letters, 73 errors in word use, and 102 punctuation errors in error. The causes of errors were obtained from the results of data analysis and interviews with teachers and grade VII students of SMP Muhammadiyah 7 Sumberlawang, Regency Sragen. The causes of these errors are influenced by the language that was first mastered, the lack of understanding of the language users of the language used, and the inadequate language teaching. From the interviews conducted, the most dominant cause was the lack of understanding of the language users of the language used.
