Abstract
Bioplastic is plastic that can be decomposed by the activity of microorganisms in the soil. This research used raw material from onggok sugar palm starch (Arenga Pinata). Onggok sugar palm is a solid waste produced by processing tapioca flour from sugar palm starch. That waste causes pollution if it is not utilized. The starch content in onggok sugar palm was estimated around 60,61%. The research was to determine the effect of chitosan concentration and stirring time on the characteristics of bioplastic. The onggok sugar palm used in this research was 6 grams. Glycerol used in bioplastic was 5 grams and sorbitol used in this research was 5 gram. Variations of chitosan used were 2,3 and 4 grams with variation of stirring time used were 40,50,60 and 70 minutes. The fixed heating temperature was 70°C. In this research was to determine the effect of variables to tensile strength, elongation, water resistance, biodegradation and morphology of bioplastic. Statistical data used was the Two Way Anova method. The optimum results of tensile strength obtained from this research was 1,962 MPa with stirring time was 70 minutes and mass of chitosan was 4 grams. The optimum results of elongation in this research was 10% with mass of chitosan is 2 grams.
