Abstract
To be able to understand a subject matter in mathematics subjects, students are expected to be able to have mathematical abilities to face future global challenges. These abilities include ability in problem solving. the objectives to be achieved in this study are to describe and analyze problem solving skills in solving mathematical problems based on the material Polya theory of the Two Variable Linear Equation System in class X of Muhammadiyah 1 Vocational School 1 Sukoharjo. The type of research used in this study is qualitative research. Data analysis techniques used are written tests, interviews and documentation. The subject taking technique is based on certain considerations in order to obtain 6 subjects in class X TKR03 with high, medium, and low categories. Based on the results of the analysis it was found that students with high abilities were able to understand problems, plan problems, solve problems well, and only 1 subject re-examined the results of work. While students with moderate and low ability are only able to complete 2 of the 3 problems given. Subjects are able to understand problems, plan problems, solve problems, but no one checks the results of work. In the results of work students do not write in full the elements in problem solving. The conclusion that can be drawn is that students have not applied problem solving skills based on polya theory.
