Abstract

This research and development aims to (1) develop comics as disaster learning resources in improving knowledge of earthquake disaster mitigation, (2) determine the effect of the level of effectiveness of comic instructional learning in increasing students' knowledge on earthquake disaster mitigation materia in MAN 1 Surakarta. The comic instructional was developed using a 4D development model developed into 3D. The research subjects were students of class XI IPS 4 for the control class and XI IPS 5 for the experimental class. The data analysis technique used the T-test to find out the evaluation of comic media. The results of the study showed (1) a summary of comic media by students and teachers getting a score of 4.51 which was included in the "GOOD" category. The ranking of material experts and media experts received an average score of 4.58 so comics are included in the "GOOD, and (2) based on the processing of student learning outcomes data shows Ho is rejected and Hi is accepted with sig 0,000 and 0.001 where sig <0.05. The average value of the control class (conventional) is 84.83 with an increase in learning outcomes of 41%. While the experimental class or class given instructional comic learning showed an average value of 87.72 with an increase in learning outcomes by 51%. These results indicate that comic learning media is effective to improve students' understanding of earthquake disaster mitigation material and improve student learning outcomes compared to conventional learning.
