Abstract

Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSDs) are occupational disease caused by less or not applying ergonomics principles. The informal business sector has not been seriously concerned about ergonomics,one of which is the working posture. Working posture is one of the external factors that can cause musculoskeletal disorders. This study aims to determine the relationship between work posture and musculoskeletal disorders on furniture workers in village Serenan, Juwiring, Klaten. This research is a quantitative study, with a cross sectional research draft. This reseach uses a quota sampling method. The population in this research is the home industry furniture in the village of Serenan, Juwiring, Klaten. The samples on this study were 141 workers. Data collection is done by interview, observation, and measurement on respoden, while data analysis using Rank Spearman with value of 95% (P ≤ 0.05). Bivariate test result between working posture with musculoskeletal disorders complaint indicates p-value = 0.000 (p-value < 0.05), which means there is a significant between working posture with musculoskeletal disorders on furniture workers in village Serenan, Juwiring, Klaten. Thus business owners need to implement work rotation and set balanced work and rest time for workers. In addition it is important to do by workers to stretch the muscles before work, rest after 2 hours of work by stretching approximately 3 minutes, and changing the position of the body periodically.
