Abstract

This research was conducted to investigate English vocabulary learning strategy used by good achievers in seventh-grade Special Program 1 of SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Surakarta. The objectives of this study were to describe the type of metacognitive, cognitive, and socioaffective strategies and realization these strategies in practice. The study used descriptive qualitative research in the form of case study. The subject of this study was the seventh-grade students Special Program 1 of SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Surakarta 2018/2019 academic year who had good score in English. There were 3 males and 3 females. The technique of collecting data in this research was questionnaire and interview. The result of the study showed that the students used 3 vocabulary learning strategies there were metacognitive, cognitive, and socioaffective strategy.
