Abstract
Friction Stir Welding (FSW) is a welding process that utilizes heat due to the rotation of the tool rubbing against the parent metal under large axial pressure in the welding area so that it can produce a connection. This study was to determine the effect of 200oC preheating heat treatment on the welding results of similar aluminum material AA 5052 on physical properties and mechanical properties.In the welding process using a milling machine with a feedrate parameter of 60 mm / minute, the tool tilt angle is 3o and the tool rotation speed is 1500 rpm. And preheating heat treatment of 200oC. Physical properties are known from microstructure, mechanical properties are known from tensile testing and hardness testing.The results of this study obtained the value of tensile strength in raw material is higher than the material that experienced preheating heat treatment with an average stress value of 164.39 Mpa and strain value of 26.62%. The highest hardness value in the circle pin specimen is on the base with a value of 31 2 VHN, the weld area of 30VHN and the haz area of 29VHN. The highest hardness value in triangular pin specimens is at haz with a value of 38VHN, the weld area of 30VHN and a base area of 37VHN. The highest hardness value in the quadrilateral pin specimen is in the base area with a value of 37VHN, the weld area of 33VHN and Haz area of 31VHN. The microstructure in the HAZ region undergoes grain growth due to the temperature received during the welding process. From the observation of the micro structure, two phases are shown, namely aluminum (Al), which is shown in white and magnesium (Mg), which is shown in black / dark.
