Abstract
This research is aimed to explain the implementation of inquiry based learning on teaching speaking in SMP Muhammadiyah 2 Surakarta. The objectives of this research are to describe how the teacher conducts speaking class, the problems and the teacher resolves the problems of teaching speaking based on inquiry learning. This research is a descriptive qualitative research. The subject of the study is an English teacher and VIII grade students of SMP Muhammadiyah 2 Surakarta. The method of collecting data are observations, interview, and documentations. The data are taken from field note of classroom observation, teacher’ interview transcript, and documentation. The result of the research shows that the implementation of Inquiry Based Learning on teaching speaking is appropriate way to be implemented as teaching method, because it can help students have motivation, students should not be afraid, and student should be more confident. Hopefully, students become interested, more active, and creative to look for the problem and to resolve it in English class.
