Abstract
Casting is defined as a manufacturing process using liquid material and mold to produce parts with a shape that is close to the final geometry of the product. This study aims to determine the effect of mold preheating on freezing speed. Testing in the form of gray iron liquid using a CE meter test kit on gray cast iron specimens was tested for chemical composition with a spectrometer then tested for hardness and micro-photographs taken from the middle and top of the specimen. The results of the study were graphs obtained from the CE meter, which showed the results of the casting material were cast iron. This is evidenced by the results of the CE meter which shows a carbon content of 3.86% and silicon of 2.38%. The results of the microstructure of the specimens tested for hardness appear graphite and ferrite. While the results of the hardness test at 36 points indicate that the lower the preheat level in the mold, the higher the level of hardness.
