Abstract
Based on the definition of the Duetch Industrie Normen (DIN) welding is a metallurgical bond on a metal or alloy metal joint that is carried out in a melted or liquid state. At this time welding techniques have been used or developed extensively in connection with building construction and machine construction. The breadth of use of welding technology is due to the advantages of welding. The purpose of this study was to determine the physical and mechanical properties of butt joint joints on ST37 carbon steel material with oxy-acetylene welding using a variation of 1.6 mm, 2 mm and 2.4 mm gap distances. Based on the results of research carried out ST37 steel plate material containing several high compositions namely Iron (Fe) 98.92%, Manganese (Mn) 0.6564%, Silicon (Si) 0.1690%, Carbon (C) 0.1400%, and Aluminum (Al) 0.0404 %. In the tensile test the highest strength is the 1.6 mm gap of 23.540 kgf/mm2, for the lowest tensile strength of 2.4 mm gap with a value of 23.255 kgf/mm2. Microstructure testing aims to determine the phases found in the weld area, HAZ, and Base Metal. The Vickers micro hardness test produced the highest hardness value in the weld area, namely gap 1.6 mm by 197.50 VHN, while the lowest hardness occurred in the Base Metal with a gap of 2.4 mm with a value of 93.2 VHN.
