Abstract

Abstract This study aims to determine the factors that influence the motivation to learn English and the dominant factors affecting motivation to learn English. This type of research is a quantitative study with a vactorial approach. The subjects of this study were high school XI IPS students at Batik 1 Surakarta High School and the objects in this study were factors that influenced motivation to learn English. This study used a sample of 140. Data was collected using a questionnaire, then processed by factor analysis techniques using the SPSS 16 program for Windows. The results showed that there were five factors that influenced motivation to learn English, namely, social support amounting to 20,273%, feeling of learning 35, 486%, anxiety 46,070, future orientation, 52,709 and hopes of getting praise 58,988%. Of the five factors, namely the expectation factor to get praise is the most dominant factor affecting the motivation to learn English.
