Abstract
This research aims to (1) describe the use of diction and its function in the collection of poetry Sebelum Sendiri by M. Aan Mansyur, (2) describe the use of figurative language and its function in the collection of poetry Sebelum Sendiri by M. Aan Mansyur, and (3) explain the implementation the results of research on literary learning in high school. This study used descriptive qualitative method. Data sources obtained from a collection of poems Sebelum Sendiri by M. Aan Mansyur amounted to 7 poetry titles. Data collection techniques use library techniques. Data analysis techniques used are semiotic models, techniques of heuristic and hermeneutic readings. The results of this study are (1) diction found in Sebelum Sendiri poetry works by M. Aan Mansyur in the form of utilization of regional language vocabulary and utilization of foreign language vocabulary, (2) figurative language found in the collection Poetry of Sebelum Sendiri by M. Aan Mansyur, among others : a) Simile, b) Personification, c) Hyperbole, d) Rhetoric, and e) Repetition. Figurative language is dominantly used by M. Aan Mansyur namely majas personification, and (3) a collection of poems Sebelum Sendiri can be used as material for literary learning in high school class X semester II with KD 3.17 and 4.17.
