Abstract
ABSTRACT Furniture is household equipment that includes all items such as chairs, cabinets, tables and others made from the main raw materials of wood. The furniture industry in Jebres Subdistrict is one of the small industrial sectors and medium industries whose products are able to compete in the domestic market and even have penetrated the export market. This furniture industry is also able to absorb many workers, so that it can provide added value to the families of workers and increase family income. This industry is able to provide employment opportunities for the surrounding community and the workforce chosen is only those who have skills in the world of furniture besides the industry also provides training to improve their skills. This study aims to analyze the socioeconomic characteristics of the furniture industry and find out the contribution of labor income to the furniture industry in total family income. The method used is a survey method with a labor population of furniture industry as many as 209 people taken by 20%, namely 42 people in this study. Samples were taken by purposive sampling by representing the characteristics of the workforce from the performance part starting from the preparation of materials, furniture manufacturing process, completion, the method of collecting data in the form of processed primary data and secondary data. Data processing techniques use frequency table techniques and cross tables or comparison tables. The geographic approach applied in this study is a spatial approach with the theme of spatial interaction analysis, by showing the distance between the origin of the labor area and the furniture industry and there are 22 workers who have a distance of 0.4 - 7.6 km from the origin area to the location the furniture industry so that workers do not need to spend a lot of transportation costs. The results showed that the furniture industry workforce in Jebres Subdistrict was mostly men with a productive age of 23-58 years, with a final education level of most high school graduates of 22 people. The workforce is currently married and has family responsibilities of an average of 2-4 people, as long as the majority of the labor force comes from outside Surakarta as many as 22 people from various regions such as Karanganyar Regency, Sragen Regency, Sukoharjo Regency, Boyolali Regency and Regency Klaten. The average workforce has worked for 1-4 years with working hours of 8 hours / day. There are 29 workers with an average of 69% of the contribution of the furniture industry income very influential on the total income of families with income ranging between IDR 1,175,000 - IDR 1,700,000 and > IDR 1,700,000.
