Abstract
Increased cholesterol according to World Health Organization (WHO) data causes 2.6 million deaths (4.5% of all deaths). Several factors that influence total cholesterol levels are high-fiber diet, high fat diet, smoking habits, gender, obesity and physical activity. This study used an observational cross sectional analytic method. The sampling method with as many as 90 consecutive sampling Korem Warastratama Surakarta Members who have met the criteria of restriction. As many as 11 of the 90 respondents had smoking habits and normal total cholesterol levels and those with abnormal total cholesterol levels were 36 people. Respondents who did not have smoking habits and normal cholesterol levels as many as 35 people and those with abnormal total cholesterol levels as many as 8 people. Furthermore, the number of respondents who have a normal body mass index and normal total cholesterol levels is 40 people, and with total abnormal cholesterol levels of 6 people. Respondents with abnormal body mass index and normal total cholesterol level were 6 people and abnormal total cholesterol levels were 38 people. Comparative test between smoking habits and total cholesterol levels p = 0,000. Comparative test between body mass index with total cholesterol level p = 0,000. Smoking habits and body mass index are related to total cholesterol levels
