Abstract
Background: Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a group of metabolic diseases with characteristics of hyperglycemia that occur due to abnormal insulin secretion, abnormal insulin activity or both. The incidence of type 2 diabetes mellitus was inseparable from the risk factors which were influencing it, such as body mass index and physical activity. Filtering examination can be done by checking random blood glucose level. Objective: This study aimed to analyze the correlation between body mass index (BMI) and physical activity towards random blood glucose level. Methods: An analytical observational study with a cross sectional approach, sampling 73 respondents from Gumpang and Makamhaji, Kartasura, using Two Stage Cluster random sampling. Data were collected from primary data using physical activity questionnaires, body mass index (BMI) measurements and Random blood glucose level test. Statistical analysis using bivariate analysis with Chi-square test , then Logistic Regression test for multivariate statistical analysis. Results: Based on the results of this study, from 73 respondents, the body mass index ρ = 0.578 and physical activity ρ = 0.777 were obtained. Conclusion: It can be concluded that there is no correlation between body mass index (BMI) and physical activity towards random blood glucose level.
