Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the increase in motivation and student learning outcomes towards the use of discovery learning methods of social studies economics for class VIII C students of MTsN 1 Surakarta. This study uses a class action research method (CAR) with two cycles. Subjects in this study were eighth grade students of MTsN 1 Surakarta in semester 2 of the 2017/2018 school year totaling 32 students. Data collection techniques use tests and observations. Data analysis techniques used descriptive and comparative analysis. The results showed that: (1) Social Studies learning with discovery learning methods can improve the learning motivation of class VIII MTsN 1 Surakarta in the academic year 2017/2018. Student learning motivation increased from 54.7% in the initial condition to 70.8% in cycle I, and increased to 91.7% at the end of cycle II; (2) Social Studies learning with cooperative learning methods Discovery learning can improve the learning outcomes of class VIII MTsN 1 Surakarta in the academic year 2017/2018. Student learning outcomes increased from 64.7 to 72.9 in the first cycle, and increased to 90.4 at the end of the second cycle.
