Abstract

This study aims to describe School-Based Management (SBM) and the role of school principals in implementing school-based management (SBM) as well as supporting and inhibiting factors in SDN Barongan III District. City, Kab. Kudus Central Java. This study uses a qualitative method with a descriptive analysis approach.Data collection techniques used are interviews, observation, and documentation. Data validity techniques using data triangulation (source) and method. Data analysis techniques used Miles and Huberman data analysis theory, namely data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results showed that Barongan III Elementary School. apply nine characteristics of school-based management, namely: 1) The school's vision, mission and objectives are formulated by all human resources in the school (school principals, teachers, alumni representatives); 2)The school budget plan is prepared jointly by the school principal, teacher, and committee in a transparent manner; 3) The existence of autonomy in schools with school empowerment and school focus on local needs; 4) Decision making is democratic and participatory; 5) Open school with all constructive input, criticism and suggestions to achieve school goals; 6) Utilizing all potential sources for school purposes; 7) There is a conducive working atmosphere; 8) There is school collaboration for the community around the school; 9) There is public transparency and accountability in implementing all activities. The principal of Barongan III Elementary School has seven roles in implementing SBM, namely the principal as an educator, manager, administrator, supervisor, leader, innovator, and motivator.
