Abstract

The objectives of this study are to describe the social relation between disabled and volunteers, and to reveal the role of supportive volunteer to persons with disabilities in acheiving academic achievement. This study uses a qualitative case study approach. The writer uses in-depth interview techniques in collecting data. Informants in this study are chosen by purposive and involves 4 volunteers and 4 disabled who are completing the study. The writer uses tematic analysis to analyze the data. The results of this study indicate that there are 4 aspects of social relation between disabled and volunteers in achieving academic achievement, those are: the relationship that are formed between disabled persons and volunteers are social assosives, namely the relationship in which there are elements of cooperation, accomodation, assimilation and acculturation..volunters give a social supports, include intrumental, award and emotional supports. The difficulties experienced among them are diffetent. The blind disabled have difficulty to manage the materials of study that not use braille. While the difficulty that the deaf disabled face is difficult in understanding the materials by lecturer' explanation. And physically disabled have difficulty in mobility at campus environment. Although having physical limitations, but disabled so skilled use of laptops and gedget to support the process of academic. Other findings from this study are religious beliefs and gratitude that encourage volunteers to help disabled people.
