Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a chronic disease that requires ongoing care to prevent complications. Good socio-economic and education will be very supportive in preventing complications of diabetes mellitus. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between socioeconomic levels and prevention of chronic complications in type 2 diabetes mellitus patients in the city of Surakarta. This research is correlative research with cross sectional approach. The study population was all people with type 2 diabetes mellitus in the work area of purwosari puskesmas in Surakarta city which amounted to 156 people. Sample research was 61 respondents obtained by proportional random sampling technique. Data collection used a questionnaire, while data analysis used chi square. The results showed that the socioeconomic conditions of type 2 diabetes mellitus in Surakarta City were good, and also had a good prevention. Furthermore there is a significant relationship between education, income, and facilities with the prevention of chronic complications of type 2 diabetes mellitus in the Purwosari Puskesmas Work Area of Surakarta City. Researchers recommend that people with diabetes mellitus, in order to always look for information about diabetes mellitus, as well as efforts to prevent complications.
