Abstract

Chronic illness is one of the most serious health problems and the biggest cause of death in the world. Based on results from Basic Health Research (RISKESDAS) data in 2013, chronic disease become top ten causes of death in Indonesia. Rheumatoid arthritis has characteristics like of joint pain, joint stiffness, swelling, limited joint motion, joint disability and can cause psychological distress. Psychological disorders are caused by changes in health status experienced by individuals so that the burden of thoughts that continue to emerge and can cause stress response. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between stress with the level of pain in people with rheumatoid arthritis in the Community. This research is a quantitative research with descriptive correlative design and using cross sectional design. This research was conducted in the some village of working area Puskesmas Kartasura I on April-June 2018. The sample was used 80 respondents and taking with kuota sampling technique. Instruments in this study used of demographic data, Perceived Stress Scale (PSS) of questionnaire and Numerical Rating Scale pain (NRS). The results of this study indicate that there is a relationship between stress with the level of pain in patients with rheumatoid arthritis in the Community (p-value 0.001).
