Abstract

This study aims to describe the mathematical ability of students in terms of gender differences in working on math problems based on PISA on SPLDV material. The method used in this research is qualitative descriptive. Subjects in this study are students of class VIII Arf SMP Muhammadiyah Al-Kautsar Special Program kartasura. Data collection techniques used observation, interviews, test methods, and documentation. Data analysis techniques performed with several stages of data reduction, display data, and conclusions and verification. There are 6 levels used in this research that is level 1 to level 6 and indicator of mathematical ability that is interpreting, translating and concluding problem. The result of the research shows that students 'mathematical ability is high in interpretation indicator and at level 1, level 2 and level 3 are sufficient, students' mathematical ability is low in level 4, level 5, level 6 and indicator of problem. Gender does not affect students' mathematical skills, but judging from the final score of the students, the male students score is superior to the female student score.
