Abstract
This research focuses on connotative meaning of expression in maroon 5 V album. This research has two major objectives proposed by the writer, they are (1) to describe the connotative meaning of keywords as used by the composer of the Maroon 5 V album, (2) to explain the components of the main words as expressed by the composer in the lyrics of the Maroon 5 V album. The type of this research is descriptive qualitative research. The data in this research are all English main words that support the occurrence of connotative meaning found in Maroon 5 V album. The source of data of this research is lyrics in Maroon 5 V album. The data of this research are collected using documentation method. The steps of collecting data in this research are reading the lyrics in Maroon 5 V album, underlying sentece which is belong to connotative meaning, classifying the data that had been underlying into connotative meaning, rewriting the data systematically. Techniques of analyzing data are Describing the connotative meaning of expressive, the writer refers to the connotative meaning of expressive theory As stated by referring to the theory of connotative meaning of Geoffrey Leech (1974), to explain the components of the main words as expressed by the composer in the lyrics of the Maroon 5 V album, the writer uses theory of Nida (1975). The result of the research indicates that (1) the connotative meaning found in Maroon 5 V album’s lyrics are: anger 6,7%, curiosity 6,7%, happiness 13,3%, melancholy 13,3%, needing 6,7%, sadness 53,3%. The dominant connotative meaning of the main words in the Maroon 5 V album is sadness.
