Abstract

The aim of this research is to improve the learning method, in term of mathematically communication ability and learning mathematic outcome which had been implemented in 7th grade student D Class of SMP Muhammadiyah 4 Surakarta, through Probing Prompting learning model, which considered as type of Classroom Action Research. The Recipient is 7th grade student D Class of SMP Muhammadiyah 4 Surakarta meanwhile the teacher as executor of action. The data are collected from observation, field notes, documentation and test. While the Data analysis techniques consist of data reduction, data presentation and conclusion. The result explain there was an increment in the mathematical communication ability as can be seen from the indicator of the number of students who were able to : 1) Present the mathematical statement in writing before the action of 7 students (26.92%) after the action of 16 students (61.53%), 2) make a strategy of solving a mathematical problem before action as many as 8 students (30,76%) after action as many as 16 students (61,53%), 3) ) examining truth of an argument before action as much as 5 student (19,23%) after action as many as 17 students (65,38%), 4) make solution of problem precisely and in detail before action as much as 6 students (23,07%) after action as many as 16 students (61,53%). In addition, there is an increment in mathematics learning outcomes in terms of student achievement ≥ Minimum completion criteria (KKM) of 10 students (23.07%) to 19 students (73.07%). Based on the verdict, this research can be concluded that Probing Prompting learning model in learning mathematics can improve mathematical communication ability and student learning achievement.
