Abstract

This study aimed to describe the increase incritical thinking skills and activeness of students in learning mathematicsfor students of class VII D SMP Muhammadiyah 7 Surakartato the application ofrealistic approachmathematic education. This study useda qualitative research based on its function withresearchclassroom actiondesign,data sources teachers and students. data collection methodsof observation, testing, and assessment dokumentasion. Validitation data usingtriangulation techniques, data analysis techniques of data reduction, data presentation,and draw conclusions or verification. The results of the study, the first application ofrealistic mathematics education approach to improveskillscritical thinkingand activeness of students in mathclassVII D SMP Muhammadiyah 7 Surakarta. Second,thinking skillscriticalin mathematics, namely: a) The ability of studentsto understand and analyze to determine solutions to problems ina matter of as much as 5 students (20%) in the first cycle there were 21 students (84%) and the second cycleto 22 students (88%) , b) the ability of the student determine the conclusion ofthe problem obtained in the solution of the equation as much as 3 students(12%) in the first cycle, there were 14 students (56%) and the second cycle to 16 students(64%). The third increase in activity in pembealajaranmathematics,namely: a) active participation in the event to ask the teacher about the problemis not yet clear as much as 2 students (8%), in the first cycle there are 8 students (32%)and the second cycle to 13 students (52%), b) Active discussions in groupsto determine solutions to problems before action by 7 students(28%), in the first cycle there were 19 students (76%) and the second cycle to 20 students(80%), c) Doing exercises in front of the class before actionas much as 3 students (12%), in the first cycle there are 8 students (32%) and the second cycleto 13 students (52%).
