Abstract
This study aimed to describe the errors made by students based on the analysis of Newman and determine the factors that influence the errors. This is a qualitative descriptive study, involving 30 students of class X Pharmaceuticals A at Bintang Nusantara Vocational School. The data collection techniques used in this study were tests, interview and observation. Five errors made by students: the reading error has the smallest percentage of 5.33% while the comprehession error has the largest percentage of 47%, while the transformation and encoding errors have the same percentage of 30.33% and the process skill error has a 34% percentage. Factors that cause students on working the test include: students too fast and rush in reading; not paying attention to symbols, currency units, nominal currency and numbers; less trained in working on working the mathematics word problem in sequence; lack of understanding of material that has been learned; less thorough in solving problems; not accustomed to checking the work; and forgot to write the conclusion of the matter.
