Abstract

Character education is a means to form the next generation of people who have good personalities. Therefore schools must apply character education as early as possible to shape the character of student. This study aims to describe the planting of the character of hard and independent work through extracurricular activities on the tapak suci. This type of research is qualitative research with phenomenological research design. Data collection techniques used are interviews, observation, and documentation. Data validity uses source triangulation and technical triangulation. Data analysis techniques include data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results of the study show that 1) the extracurricular activities of the tapak suci are carried out routinely once a week and additional exercises are carried out before the championship. 2) planting the character of hard work through warming up, doing repetitive movements, giving challenges, re-demonstrating the movements being taught. 3) planting independent characters through pair practice, putting up belts and taking their own equipment, giving challenges, choosing friends when pairing exercises, and giving penalties. 4) obstacles encountered are differences in student character, limited trainers, lack of complete school facilities, and parents who do not pay attention to children at home. 5) the solution used is to always patiently remind students, monitor students every exercise, cooperate with other organizations, communicate with parents of students.
