Abstract

The self concept is an individual idea or picture about him that is obtained from the results of the interaction with other people, the environment and experience. The concept of the self is considered important because it is one of the elements forming the personality of the person. This concept greatly affect a person's self confidence and achievement of a person in all areas of life. In the absence of understanding of the concept of self made difficult in determining the individual's personality. This study aims to describe the concept of self owned by teenagers who smoke, and what are the factors affecting the self concept. The subject in this study amounted to 6 teenagers with the eligible criteria i.e. 16-18 years old and smoked at least 4 rods per day. The methods used in this study is a qualitative phenomenological approach method or approach where researchers seek to understand the meaning of an event and mutually influential men in certain situations. The collection of data using interviews and observation, while analysis is the analysis of the contents with the stages of organization data, coding, determining the themes, categorization and discussion of research results. The results of this study showed that teens who smoke have described the concepts themselves are each based on the aspect of cognitive, affective, physical, psychic and social. As well as the factors that influence teenagers in describing the concept itself.
