Abstract

The purpose of this research is to improve students' mathematics learning activity by applying Discovery Learning`s method based on NHT (Numbered Heads Together) in grade XI MIPA 1 students of MA PPMI Assalaam Kartasura. The type of the research is Classroom Action Research (CAR) which is collaboratively conducted between the mathematics teacher and the reseacher. Recipients of the action are the students of class XI MIPA 1 Assalaam Kartasura as many as 31 students and the doer is mathematics teacher and researcher. Data collection techniques in this study using observation, field notes, and documentation. Data analysis techniques used in this study are reduction, presentation and conclusion. The result of this research are the increase of student learning activity of mathematics, it can be seen from each of the following indicators, (1) the students are active in responding to the questions given by the teacher before the action as much as 6 students (19,35%), and after the action as many as 21 students (72.41%); (2) the students asked the teacher about the unknown matter before the action as much as 2 students (6.45%), and after action as many as 19 students (65,52%); (3) the students are involved in the learning process before the action as many as 7 students (22.58%), and after action as many as 20 students (68.96%). It can be concluded that the use of numbered heads together technique of Discovery Learning method can improve the students’ activeness of learning mathematics.
