Abstract
The purpose of this study is to describe: 1) The planting of character values in the learning IPS preliminary activity in MTs Negeri Ngemplak Boyolali District; 2) Efforts to instill character values in core activities of IPS learning in MTs Negeri Ngemplak of Boyolali Regency; 3) Implementation of character values in closing activities on IPS learning in MTs Negeri Ngemplak Boyolali District. The type of research is qualitative research with qualitative descriptive approach with ethnography study. Data collection techniques use documentation, interviews and observation. Data analysis is done by organizing data, breaking it into units, synthesizing, organizing into patterns, choosing what is important and learning, and making conclusions that can be shared with others. There are three stages in data analysis that is data reduction, data presentation, and verification. Result of research: 1) The planting of character value in preliminary activity in IPS lesson in MTs Negeri Ngemplak Boyolali done in accordance with the learning implementation plan that is the teacher convey the greeting and pray together; condition the class, ask the material already learned with the previous chapter with the competence to be studied; motivate, and inform the topics and learning objectives with students divided into groups; 2) The planting of character values in core activities in IPS learning in MTs Negeri Ngemplak Boyolali, ie observing, questioning, gathering information, associating, and communicating. As for this activity, the characters developed include: fair, courageous opinion, tolerance, respect, cooperation, independent, reading, honest and nationalism; 3) The planting of character values in closing activities in Social Studies lesson in MTs Negeri Ngemplak Boyolali is that students are given the opportunity to ask things that have not been understood, the teacher gives explanation on the student's question, the students are asked to reflect on the learning process related to the mastery of the material, the approach and the learning model used, students are given a message about values and morals and given the task to refine the report of the results of group discussions and teachers deliver the closing greetings
