Abstract
Background: In Central Java on 2013, as many as 26.03% of elementary school children have low academic achievement. Academic achievement are influenced by internal factors such as zinc intake and IQ, there is also external factor such as of mother's education. Deficiency of zinc intake will disrupt the development of the brain that affecting academic achievement. In Kartasura 39.4% of elementary school children who have zinc deficiency, and 39.6% of elementary school children in Central Java who have mother with low education show that they also have low academic achievement. Objective: To analyze the correlation of zinc intake, mother’s education, and intelligence quotient (IQ) with school children's academic achievement in MIM Kartasura. Methods: This research type is observational analytic, with Cross Sectional method. Using purposive sampling as sampling technique with 69 subject, using the SQ-FFQ questionnaire for zinc intake and SPM method for IQ measurement. Bivariate analysis with Chi-Square and multivariate analysis with logistic regression using SPSS version 20.0 for windows. Conclusions: There is a statistically significant correlation between zinc intake and IQ with academic achievement with p = 0,001, OR = 9,635 and p = 0,007, OR = 6,070. There is no statistically significant correlation between mother’s education and academic achievement with p = 0,950.
