Abstract
Psychosocial life of early adulthood period will to increases be complex because beside the individual to enter the workforce, she/he also to face a variety the developmental tasks, the one of is married and fostering domestic life. If it fails within to made of intimacy so he will experience what is called isolation i.e. feel excluded from others, loneliness, blame themselves cause different with others. The aim of this research is to know the relation between self-compassion with loneliness, so the authors propose the hypothesis "there is a positive relationship between self-compassion with loneliness.", The subject in this study is the student of psychology Faculty of UMS, the 2016 grade that is an amount of one hundreds student. Sampling technique that used was incidental sampling, namely, anyone who by chance/incidental met with researchers can be used as a sample, when is seen the person that found it incidentally suitable as a data source. Measuring instrument which is used to reveal research variables there are 2 kinds of measuring instrument, namely: (1) the scale of self-compassion, and (2) the scale of loneliness. Data analysis in this study uses the product moment correlation, Based on the results, so is obtained the correlation between self-compassion with loneliness (r) is amount of 0.433 with p = 0.000 where p 0.01 <, this means there is a very significant positive relationship between self-compassion with loneliness. That is, the higher self-compassion of negative aspects, then the higher the loneliness in college students, and conversely the lower self-compassion of negative aspects, then the lower also loneliness on a student. The empirical mean of the variable self-compassion is an amount of 56.52 with the mean hypothetic is an amount of 65. So the mean empirical < mean hypothetic that means that generally, the UMS student of Psychology Faculty had self-compassion of negative aspects is low. Furthermore, the empirical mean of the variable loneliness is an amount of 66.51 with mean hypothetic is an amount of 75. So the mean empirical < mean hypothetic which means generally the UMS students of Psychology Faculty has loneliness is medium. The role of self-compassion towards loneliness (SE) is an amount of 18.7%, which mean there is still 81.3% another factor besides the self-compassion that affects the loneliness, namely demographic characteristics, the setting of life, and the personality characteristics.
