Abstract
This study aims to predict the distribution of temperature and airflow patterns in a class room with dimension of 10.45 m x 8.1 m x 3.93 m due to the existence of an air conditioner. This study was realized by the measurements of air temperature inside the class room at several reference points will be used for validation and comparison. The measurement position was set at 1m height from the floor. The steady RANS simulation applied the k - epsilon turbulence model with three different structured mesh types up to 972,838 elements. The mesh type capable of producing simulation data closest to the temperature measurement data will be further developed to investigate indoor air circulation due to the effect of fan speed on the evaporator. Three fan speeds were varied at 3.16; 3.66; and 4.16 m/s. The results show that the finest mesh construction is able to produce prediction of simulation data with error rate up to 4.91%. In the investigation of the three different velocity conditions, air velocity influences the distribution of temperature and airflow patterns. As the air speed increases, the temperature distribution and airflow patterns are more evenly distributed throughout the class room.
