Abstract

ABSTRACT This research is purpose to find out how these students' ability to think creatively researchers gave about using open-ended problem, it aims to trigger creative thinking abilities of students. To determine the level of students' ability to think creatively researchers used three indicators of creative thinking that includes fluency, flexibility, and the originality that will researchers criteria based tacking conducted by Siswono (2008), The formulation of the problem in this study were 1) How creative thinking skills in students with high math ability in solving the open ended problems material circumference and area of the circle of the class VIII Junior High School 17 Surakarta?, 2) How creative thinking skills in students with mathematical skills in solving the open ended problems material circumference and area of the circle of the class VIII Junior High School 17 Surakarta?, 3) What about the ability of creative thinking in students with low math ability in solving the open ended problems material circumference and area of the circle of the class VIII Junior High School 17 Surakarta?, This study used a qualitative approach. Methods of data collection using: 1) Test, and 2) Interviews. Data analysis techniques used are qualitative data analysis steps of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion, The results showed that the ability to think creatively in class VIII reaches up to level 4 (very creative), include students with high math ability has a positive correlation to the ability of creative thinking, which has the ability to think creatively level 4 (very creative). Students with math skills were likely to have the ability to think creatively level 4 (very creative), while students with low math ability can not meet all three indicators of creative thinking.
