Abstract
This research paper is intended to analyze the process of teaching English to the fifth year students of SD Negeri Mojo, Karang Malang, Sragen. This research is descriptive qualitative which does not include any calculation or statistic procedure. The researcher takes the English teacher and the students at the fifth year in 2009/2010 academic year consisting of 43 students as the subject of her research. The method of collecting the data involves observation and interview. The data are in the form of field note, interview script, and document. The result of the study shows that 1) the curriculum used for teaching English in SDN Mojo, Karang Malang, Sragen is based on the 2006 Curriculum, 2) The teacher should develop all aspects of listening, speaking, reading, and writing. The teacher should arrange the syllabus before teaching, 3) The material used by the teacher is the textbook “Grow with English-an English Course for Elementary School”, 4) The methods used in teaching English to the fifth year students of SD Negeri Mojo, Karang Malang, Sragen are TPR and CLT. The use of this method is seen from the activity done by the students and the teacher in the class, 5) The media used in teaching English is picture and the other media related with the material, 6) In evaluation the teacher uses the standardized test and daily test. Standardized test is the test made by the government and the daily test made by the teacher.
